Meet Sophia. She is about 7 years old. Sophia was rescued from a terrible hoarding situation with over 60 dogs in South Carolina. She was kept in an extremely small crate outside in an overgrown, swampy area. She lost her right front leg early in her captivity, possibly from a snake bite, an incident with the other captive dogs, or an injury from the small crate. She was rescued by Camp Bark, and then fostered by The Odoms, who had her for a brief time before we adopted her. Knowing tripawd doggies are hard to adopt, and black dogs are also hard to adopt, the combination of both of these was going to be a hard sell for a perspective family. We knew that, and knew we could provide a loving home for her, so she became the second Myrick doggie. She is extremely sweet and loving, and she literally pulls her lips back into a smile when she’s really happy. Sophia loves attention and will let you pet her for hours if you want. She is an excellent guard dog, but her focus is on any animal smaller than her. If given a chance, she’ll let smaller animals know of her dislike, and she routinely chases, and comes very close to catching any rabbits that wander in her territory. Sophia was diagnosed with Lymphoma a few months ago, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Her pet peeve is going to the Vet for her treatments. She loves the people there, but doesn’t like the things they have to do her to help her feel better one day. If things go as planned, she may enjoy a year or more of remission after her treatments are over, so every day with her is even more precious now.
About Sophia

Welcome to my online home since 2004. I blog a bit about my life as it happens, my work as I am permitted, and occasional throwback entries. When I'm not writing new posts, I actively curate this blog, improving the wording or adding new media to old posts, and finally finishing old drafts I've left sitting for years. It is not my intention to be a source of news or content. I don’t have anything to sell, and I’m not trying to get likes/shares/follows. This site is an autobiographical effort - imperfections and all. My life, remembered in my words, my way.
