On today’s date 11 years ago, Ricky Hendrick won his third NASCAR Winston Racing Series Late Model race. As with the previous two, (first victory and second victory) it was at Concord Motorsport Park. We were really starting to hit our stride at this point; building lots of momentum as the season wound down.

I cannot overstate how amazing this time in my life was. That team, Papa Joe, Ricky, just everything about it. It truly was “the good old days”. The only downside was Ricky’s dad Rick Hendrick still wasn’t physically able to be there with us for the win. So much was unknown then about Rick’s Leukemia treatments, and how things would turn out, so we sure missed having him there for the victory. There’s no doubt he would’ve been there if he could’ve.
