For his birthday today, I present:
My dad rode in a NASCAR Winston Cup car at the infield road course in Charlotte Motor Speedway in the mid-80’s with crew chief Richard Broome as the driver. He hung on by just holding the roll bars on the passenger side, as there was no second seat. Things didn’t end up so well, and this is the story as told by Rick and Papa Joe Hendrick. It is also the reason Hendrick Motorsports began using two-seat race cars for such events.
