Charm City meets Race City

We had the pleasure of meeting chef Duff Goldman from Charm City Cakes recently. He baked an amazing life-sized replica of the #5 Time Warner Cable car for an event we had at Hendrick Motorsports to celebrate a contract extension by Time Warner. Duff was incredibly down-to-earth and friendly during our talks leading up to the event. It was a pleasure to speak with someone you’ve seen on TV, and know he’s just like he is on his show Ace of Cakes. Not to mention we got to see him construct this huge cake, which was a real treat! The tent for the event was set up in the parking lot of the Hendrick Heritage Center where I work, so I was in and out all day checking on the progress. Very cool!

It’s funny because I also met the group Little Big Town at this event, and found them to be wonderful people, but the highlight for me was still being around Duff and watching him work. I guess it’s the mechanic/foodie in me that enjoyed it so much. Seeing the assembly and construction of that incredible cake was just so fascinating!

In this article, Duff called this cake his best ever, so it was cool to know I got to eat some of his best work as well as seeing him create it: https://www.complex.com/sports/2012/10/ace-of-cakes-designer-duff-goldman-baked-a-life-size-nascar-cake
