Posted November 2, 2019 at Pinky's Westside Grill - I have, and will struggle with loving myself. I am convinced you should love yourself to a certain degree, but I have lived with self-loathing for most of my life. Not because I make more mistakes than everyone else, but because only I have been present for every single mistake I have ever made. I’ve seen them all. So I judge myself on a different scale than I do others. A scale that makes self-loathing somewhat easier to attain than self-loving. Still, as I’ve grown I’ve come to what I think is a healthy balance. Enough love not to hate myself, and enough dislike of the sin inside me not to become selfish or self-obsessed. Even with years of practicing that balance, inevitably I fail. For too many years I was driven by ego and inflated self-worth to the point of selfishness. And for too many years I downright hated the person in the mirror. Both extremes. Sometimes I did both in the same day. Too much and too little. Zero balance. A faulty level. Today, my advice on self-love is simple – Love yourself, but base that love on the fact Jesus Christ knew you intimately, and still died for your brokenness and sin. If He saw your value, you should too, but keep in mind your righteousness is nothing without Him. There is accountability. If you keep your value based solely on Jesus, it can allow you to have a healthy level of love for yourself, while understanding that we aren’t capable of going too far and worshiping ourselves without dire consequences. The importance of finding God is, for some, primarily rooted in believing in something larger than themselves. A way to ground themselves and prevent selfishness to ultimately become a better person through service to others. Searching for that accountability. To that end, people have created gods to serve that purpose. By doing so, they mock the very accountability they pretend to seek. You can’t be accountable to your imaginings. Accountability must be based in truth. Those people will never be satisfied until they understand we were created with a Jesus-sized hole in our heart. He alone can provide that balance. He alone is that Truth. If you feel out of balance on your self-love/self-loathing- Get level! I’ll help you!

Posted April 9, 2017 at Mar Vista Grande, North Myrtle Beach, SC - I've posted and deleted this photo no less than five times since it was taken back in February. I've edited it a hundred crazy ways and deleted the edits. I have literally spent hours adding effects and taking them away, only to delete all the other versions. I've struggled with a caption for it. I love it, but for whatever reason just didn't think it was good enough to post as-is. . How many times do we take something perfectly good and limit it or discount it needlessly in our own minds? Our talents, our worth, our self image, whatever it may be. For goodness sake - let it go! Put it out there. If people don't like it, that's okay, but at least relieve yourself of the burden of hiding it. Life is too short to keep a full camera roll. Or something like that...

Posted November 26, 2016 at Melbourne Beach, FL - Yesterday, I met a stranger on the beach named Joe. Joe is divorced, has kids, is from New Jersey and works in Manhattan. He is in town visiting his mother, who lives a few blocks away. During our talk, I told Joe of my frustration because the birds wouldn't cooperate and pose during my beach pictures like they do for all my friends when they take sunrise pics. We talked a bit about his life, and he told me he was going to try to take a photo with his kids on the beach during sunrise at some point during his vacation, because all through his marriage he was always the picture taker. It seems his kids have tons of photos with their mom, but virtually none with Joe, and he wanted to make up for that. I saw Joe again this morning, and he introduced me to his son. I was touched he was able to have one of his kids with him on the beach, because it obviously meant a lot to him during our talk. I shot my sunrise pics as usual, and I saw some birds, so I made sure to take a few pics of them, even though they were just skimming the top of the waves, not up in the sky posing for me. After a few pics, I checked them to see how they looked. It was then I realized I had captured Joe and his son sitting on the beach in many of my pictures. If you look at the lower left of the pic up close, you'll see them, and seven birds just above them. My thoughts returned to our talk yesterday, and I thought it was pretty cool that I was able to take pictures with Joe, his son and some birds in them. When I was done shooting, I walked down, gave him a business card, and told him to email me and I'd send him the pics. I sure hope he does... UPDATE: Joe has emailed me and I've sent him a couple of photos already. I'll send him more when I get them edited. UPDATE 2: Joe and all three of his kids were at the sunrise on the beach this morning (day after I took the pic above). I took a posed photo for them, and a few other pics that I emailed to him.

Posted September 17, 2016 - Yesterday our littlest girl earned her wings. Sophia was an amazing doggie that never let early neglect, the loss of a leg, or a nine month battle with Leukemia deter her from living her life to the fullest. She taught us so much in her time with us. Over six years of love, toughness, and her amazing personality. The house is far too quiet in the hours since she’s been gone. I’ll write more about her when I’m able, but for now just know I can’t wait to see her again. All dogs go to Heaven.

Posted March 19, 2016 - Meet Lola, the Queen of the Myrick family dogs. Lola is a 9 year old Golden Retriever adopted from Golden Creek Kennels. She was quite happy being the first and only child, but adjusted well when her sister Sophia was adopted. She did not adapt as well when her brother Buddy came along, but now that she is the undisputed champion in every contest against him, all is well. She was somewhat aloof for most of her life, but has become more loving as she grows older. Her affection for her sister Sophia is particularly sweet, especially acting to support Sophia at times when she literally needs a friend to lean on. Lola’s greatest accomplishment is being smarter than her parents, a fact she happily flaunts daily. Being smarter than us, almost everything we ask her to do is just plain wrong, and she prefers to do it her way instead. She is very well adjusted and enjoys attention from family members and strangers alike, but she definitely makes you work for it. An excellent guard dog, Lola is known for not wasting her barks; when she barks, there’s usually something odd going on. Her biggest pet peeve is being brushed. She does not enjoy it one bit and thinks it’s an evil to be avoided at all costs.

The third dog adopted by us, he’s very street smart, and an excellent hunter, a skill that occasionally dismays us. He was an inside dog abandoned by his original family as their kids got older. They chained him outside in a low spot, on a very short chain. When it rained, he had to climb on top of his house to avoid the flooding. He went without food, water and attention for long periods, as the father once told the neighbor he was, "done feeding him". This led to eventually being rescued by the neighbor, then fostered by us. We quickly figured out we suck at being fosters, and Buddy came to live with us. His social skills leave some to be desired, but he's improved a lot. He’s eaten glass Christmas ornaments, an entire cooked chicken, toothpicks, 200 Tums, 200 Prilosec, a bag of grits, and countless flip-flops. Thankfully, that issue seems to be over. He’s clingy, and tries hard to make up for the love he missed in his first year and a half of life before us. He is super affectionate and loves to sit on anyone who'll let him and lick them until they're beyond tired of it. He still has a few anxiety related issues, but as time goes on, we've loved most of those out of him. Living with two other dogs, he struggled to find his spot in the pecking order, and he got into a couple of scuffles with his sisters, most notably, one incident with Sophia where stitches were needed to sew up a nose injury when she decided she'd had enough. He's settled in as the middle dog, reluctantly giving Lola the top spot, and being thankful Sophia has allowed him some authority over her. Buddy shadows us for much of the day, studying our every move as if he's practicing to become human. He hates anything that flies and does his best to either catch it, or bark at it while running underneath. He has run into a fence at full-force more than once, while looking up and barking at airplanes. He doesn't have a normal sounding bark, but makes a silly, whiny, "Woo-Woo" noise instead. His biggest pet peeve is having his nails trimmed, and is not beyond letting everyone know he doesn't enjoy it.

She was kept in an extremely small crate outside in an overgrown, swampy area. She lost her right front leg early in her captivity, possibly from a snake bite, an incident with the other captive dogs, or an injury from the small crate. She was rescued by Camp Bark, and then fostered by The Odoms, who had her for a brief time before we adopted her. Knowing tripawd doggies are hard to adopt, and black dogs are also hard to adopt, the combination of both of these was going to be a hard sell for a perspective family. We knew that, and knew we could provide a loving home for her, so she became the second Myrick doggie. She is extremely sweet and loving, and she literally pulls her lips back into a smile when she’s really happy. Sophia loves attention and will let you pet her for hours if you want. She is an excellent guard dog, but her focus is on any animal smaller than her. If given a chance, she’ll let smaller animals know of her dislike, and she routinely chases, and comes very close to catching any rabbits that wander in her territory. Sophia was diagnosed with Lymphoma a few months ago, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Her pet peeve is going to the Vet for her treatments. She loves the people there, but doesn’t like the things they have to do her to help her feel better one day. If things go as planned, she may enjoy a year or more of remission after her treatments are over, so every day with her is even more precious now.

Posted September 13, 2014 at North Myrtle Beach, SC - On the beach in North Myrtle Beach this morning, waiting for the sunrise, and I saw a grandfather and two grandsons headed to the ocean. I overheard the grandfather tell one grandson to slow down. The boy told his grandpa he was excited and didn’t want to miss the sunrise, to which the grandpa replied, “Son, you can’t miss the best things in life. God’ll always bring ’em right to ya’.” Amazing wisdom! Now, I took prettier pictures this morning, but I didn’t take any better picture than capturing those guys walking the beach. I feel fortunate to have been there for it.

Posted August 7, 2013 - Sophia. Our sweet 3-legged rescue dog. She originally came from a hoarder with over 80 dogs. When the rescuers came back for the last of the dogs, they asked the hoarder if she had any other animals. She told them she did but they "wouldn't want it". The rescuers pursued it and eventually the woman brought them a small dog she'd named "Gimpy", a play on her having three legs. Not at all a humorous name given the fact she lost that leg due to neglect of the hoarder. The folks that rescued her tried and tried to get her adopted but "Keela" as she'd been renamed, had 2 big strikes against her. 1: She's black and black dogs rarely get adopted and... 2: She's "handicapped" and those dogs very, very rarely get adopted. Seeing this sweet baby and knowing we could handle it, we offered to adopt her. Boy are we glad we did! If you don't pay close attention, you don't realize she only has three legs. She runs as fast as our other dogs and she's just pure muscle. She is just so very sweet and downright cute. I call her the "cutest little 3-legged doggie ever".

Her life was fairly drama free as she came from a very wonderful breeder in NC. While we loved the process of getting her, there are so many dogs in need of rescue that Lola will be the last non-rescued dog we own. She is so very well behaved and probably the smartest dog I've ever seen. She easily outsmarts the other dogs and sometimes even us. She's also very pretty and she knows it.

The Hearst Tower features a high-rise element that combines horizontal bands of glass with strong vertical piers of stone and precast concrete. The building has a reverse floorplate design which gives the tower its distinctive flared out appearance towards the tower’s top. The 32 floor tower rests atop a 15 floor podium which contains the building lobby, a 1,400-space parking garage, retail, and Trading Floor. Oh and a nice fountain, pictured in the foreground
