For his birthday today, I present:
My dad rode in a NASCAR Winston Cup car at the old infield road course inside Charlotte Motor Speedway in the mid-80’s with crew chief Richard Broome as the driver. He hung on by just holding the roll bars on the passenger side, as there was no second seat. The car was set up for left hand ovals, so when the first right hand turn came, well, things didn’t end up so well. The video below is the story as told by the team owners. It is also the reason the team began using two-seat race cars for such events.
