Helen Myrick

My Grandmother Helen Myrick has passed away. She was 97. “Grandma” was very well loved by so many people. Chief among those were her daughter Linda Hendrick and son Bill Myrick. Additionally, her granddaughter Lynn Carlson was certainly one of her favorite people, and Lynn always went the extra mile for our grandmother. Their love for one another was clearly evident.

For decades, a very well-known and popular person in Henderson, NC, she moved to Florida in later years to live in comfort thanks to her daughter Linda. The two were very close and went on countless trips and adventures together. Among Grandma’s favorite activities was going to the race track to watch Hendrick Motorsports. She was a staunch supporter of the team from its foundation in 1984, and was present at many races. She loved the excitement of the race track, and through the years many HMS employees came to love her as well. In the process, she became their Grandma too. While I will personally miss her greatly, her loss will impact many people.

She will be most profoundly missed for her amazing, mischievous sense of humor, her passion for fun and adventure, her incredible generosity, and her sometimes painfully truthful demeanor. Also to be missed will be her constant speeding on the highway, first stopping at/then running red lights, going the wrong way down one-way roads, and other vehicular misadventures. She was certainly one of a kind.

As a tribute, I’d like to post this small selection of photos from a few of my Grandmother’s happy moments at the race track.

Two of my favorite photos with her:

Goodbye Grandma. I love you.

UPDATE June 4, 2024 – Hendrick Motorsports ran a tribute decal to Grandma on all 4 of their cars this past weekend. FOX Sports did a nice mention of her and the decals as well. She would’ve loved being part of the action.
